Between 1975 and Early 1982, Hostess and many of the major comic publishers teamed up to create one of the most Iconic advertising campaigns in comic book History. Hostess Cupcakes, Fruit Pies and Twinkies appeared in over 340 different 1 page advertisements (there was also one, 2 page ad) with the likes of Spider-Man, Superman, Josie, Casper, Bugs Bunny and some one hit wonders like Red Tornado, Plastic Man and Green Arrow.
The publishers that were included in this campaign included Archie, DC, Gold Key, Harvey, Marvel and Whitman; featuring over 50 characters.
There were a few well known villains like Wendigo, Red Skull and Penguin, but many unique villains were only seen once during their Hostess Rain of Terror. Who could forget 'The Chairman', 'The Bureauc-Rat', 'Photoman' or 'The Roller Disco Devils', just to name a few?
